When this family in Yanchep built their new house, they knew from the outset that a pool was a must have part of creating their forever home. While it didn’t happen right away, they designed their outdoor space with a future pool in mind, initially planning for it to be located in the backyard. As time went on, they decided against their original plan as the pool wouldn’t have been a feature of the house that could be viewed from the living areas, as it is now.

The revised pool location was a large grassed area on the side of the property that already had established hardscapes in place, including decking, paving and planter boxes. These existing structures meant compromises needed to be made in order to meet council compliance regulations. Because of the existing planter boxes, boundary fences needed to be extended to 1800mm high from the top of the planter. Existing beautiful mature Magnolia Teddy Bear trees had to be removed and were replaced with a range of beautiful tropical non-climbable plants, including giant Elephant Ears, Heliconias and Xanadu’s.

The pool dig was not a simple one due to hitting rock, which the owners were fairly confident was going to be the case given they hit limestone when digging out the septics and soak wells during the house build. However, as they mentioned it during the planning process, the team at Sapphire Pools ensured the person digging the hole also had the excavator with the rock breaker ready, avoiding major delays.

The Provincial model was cleverly selected to nestle alongside the modern family home. The 6.7m x 3.2m design allows for a generous swimming zone while still providing space to move around the area and lounge poolside. The family chose the colour Indigo Snow as it was a beautiful crisp, clear blue colour that complemented the black, grey and white colour scheme and would pop against the black fence, filled with beautiful greenery.

They chose honed concrete in Kajanni White with a seamless pool edge for the pool surround as they loved the idea of minimal maintenance and not having to worry about weeds coming through. It also complemented the area as a whole with the numerous mixed hard and softscapes. A small grass area at the end of the pool was retained and a palm tree was planted in it, which will provide another area to lounge in the shade when it matures.

Their vision was to create a tropical meets modern resort vibe, with numerous seating and dining areas around the pool for entertaining guests, which they have most definitely achieved and the family are now are enjoying living their dream.
